Palestinian Islamist group Hamas said on Tuesday AEST it had agreed to a three-phased deal for a ceasefire and hostages-for-prisoners swap, although an Israeli official said the deal was not acceptable to Israel because terms had been “softened”.

Israeli sources told local media that a framework agreement proposed by Israel last week would have involved three prisoners being released every three days the ceasefire lasted. The deal supported by Hamas would instead have seen three hostages released each week, according to Israeli media reports.
