The stark reality of the gender pay gap across Australia has come into sharp focus with the Workplace Gender Equality Agency this year releasing publicly the gender pay gap data for 5000 individual companies – a national first.

The move has ratcheted up the pressure on corporate Australia to hasten its endeavours to reduce the pay gap, which is far more pronounced in some industries than in others. WGEA data revealed that around half of all Australian employers have a gender pay gap higher than 9.1 per cent, and three-quarters have a gap of more than 5 per cent.
