Commodity markets flash warning signal for stocks

The simultaneous rally in both gold and oil is signalling that geopolitical risks have returned to markets, presenting a fresh threat to the barnstorming rally in risk assets such as equities and cryptocurrencies.
US oil futures shot through $US85 a barrel for the first time since October, while the global Brent benchmark jumped to near $US90. Meanwhile, spot gold prices hit another all-time high at $US2276.89 an ounce, boosted by demand for safe-haven assets.
