Rio turns to Mars exploration tech in search for next big discovery

Rio Tinto says technology used in the exploration of Mars can help it break a near seven-year mineral discovery drought and dramatically speed up its quest for new copper and lithium mines.
The mining giant is hailing the use of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, or LIBS, as a “giant leap forward” in minerals exploration, and is rolling it out in Australia and across its global footprint.
